Milan, Summer 2014. We cross the city a year before the Great Event. Everything’s silent.
Everything seems quiet in its urban nature, in its immersive austerity.
Esploriamo alcuni dei suoi luoghi nevralgici: troviamo cinque cuori di Milano, gangli nervosi di un organismo pulsante. Osserviamo la città che si addormenta e che si risveglia, vuota.
We explore some of its nerve centres: here we have the five hearts of Milan, ganglia of a living organism.
We observe the city falling asleep and waking up, empty.
Ci muoviamo ai confini tra l’interno, i luoghi dell’abitare, e il fuori, lo spazio della città. Raccontiamo i dialoghi e i conflitti tra le interiora delle abitazioni che ci ospitano e il contesto che ci circonda. Posiamo lo sguardo ora sull’architettura che le dà forma, ora sui volti di vaganti e pellegrini che la attraversano.
Moving along the borders between the inside, the living spaces, and the outside, the town. We tell the dialogues and the fights occurring between the interior of the houses that are hosting us and the external context around us. Now we move on to the architecture, shaping the city, then we look at the wanderers and pilgrims passing by.
Ode a Milano non è solo un film pedagogico o un documentario a tema, ma un canto alla città. Un canto alla sua natura.
Ode to Milan is not just an educational movie or a themed documentary, but a song to the city. A song to its nature.
E’ un film silenzioso, una visione primitiva, come un film al vivo, l’inizio esatto del cinema.
It’s a quiet film, a primordial view, as if it were a live film, the very beginning of cinema.

Observing.
Avviciniamo la città come una persona di cui abbiamo appena incrociato l’esistenza.
We approach the city like a person who we have just come across.
Ci caliamo nelle sue profondità.
We slowly go into its depths.
Ne percorriamo il corpo come faremmo con un continente vergine.
Exploring its body as we would do with a virgin continent.
